Cyber_Dolls

is an installation of two Barbie Dolls in a rusty tin box. As a user you can log on to the dolls via a pornesque website or a wireless hand held computer. Here you can possess the dolls and press buttons to make them emulate rudimentary sexual activity. There is also a live webcam where you can see when the other doll has been logged onto. Trough the dolls a network is created between you and someone else also the dolls are on display in an exhibition, this is really a manifestation of cyber sex for the third party, and exposure of what is usually a person to person thing - cyber sex. The technology involved : flash media server - teleo - maxmsp - electronic and apache server.

This sculpture provides a unique manifestation of cyber sex for the third party and enables a direct communication network for two people, one on line on the intranet and one in the exhibition space. The physical exhibit comprises a pair of dolls that are mechanized and have crude movement that emulates physical affection each for the other. There are only two parameters of movement per doll, they are 'hump' and 'hug' which could immaturely summarize the physical distinctions of 'lust' and 'love'. The sculpture will therefore function in odd ways. Sometimes, a user online will be activating the 'hump' button of their doll and no one else will be logged on. This and other combinations of absence and activity between the users and their parameters can be analyzed and parallels may be drawn between them and real life relationships. Sometimes one user wants to activate 'hump' and the other user wants to activate 'hug' (requires one on line user and one real space user).
